Old Time Revisionism—Southern Baptists Seek to Redefine Separation of Church and State | Political Research Associates

Old Time Revisionism—Southern Baptists Seek to Redefine Separation of Church and State | Political Research Associates

The War On Religion, Political Research Associates

THE WAR ON RELIGION--Pra 12-27-14, 837 words excerpted by al bratton, al's liberal blog. re-posted 12-27-14 by Al bratton ms liberal secularist.

"Since the 1970s, conservative evangelical Christians have adopted the earlier Catholic narrative that there is a determined secularist campaign to destroy religion and replace it with “humanism.”83 Francis Schaeffer, Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Jerry Falwell, and Adrian Rogers (the leader of the Southern Baptist Convention following the conservative ‘coup’ of 1979), and many others drew on what historian Richard Hofstadter would call “paranoid” themes in right-wing American anticommunism, dislocations in traditional life brought on by post-1960s flights to the suburbs,84 and changes wrought by the civil rights, women’s, and gay liberation movements to depict an overall war on religion itself. Secularism has become the new socialism85—though in the racist way President Obama is depicted in some of this literature, it seems the themes are reunited".
"To some, this battle is literally the battle between God and Satan. Tim LaHaye, for example, demands that Christians “resist the devil and… put on the whole armor of God.”86Beverly LaHaye wrote in 1984 that secularists are “priests of religious humanism and are evangelizing our children for Satan.”87 Donald Wildmon’s outrageous tome Speechless is of the same ilk. These formulations seem unlikely to appeal to more moderate Christians, and on the contrary are likely to turn them off. Yet they have a strong appeal among evangelicals. In a 1990 survey reported by Sarah Barringer Gordon, more than 90 percent of those who self-identified as evangelicals (not just conservative evangelicals but evangelicals in general) agreed with the statement that “Christian values are under serious attack in the United States today.”88
This rhetoric, even in its extreme form, is not simply propaganda but reflects a sincere sense, justified by opinion polls, that show the country moving away from traditional religion89—that an old Christian order is waning. Rather than ascribe this trend to socioeconomic, scientific, psychological, or other factors, the Christian Right narrative9looks for an enemy: Satan, socialism, communism, liberals, the War on Christmas, secularists, Barack Hussein Obama, feminists, homosexuals, evolution, abortionists, socialists, humanists—or, best, a hodgepodge of all of the above. “Religious liberty” rhetoric is part of this narrative. Christianity is not losing its power in this narrative; someone is taking it away.
Christianity is still the dominant religion in America, but its power is changing. One recurring theme in the right-wing literature is the sense of a “coming storm,” to quote from an antimarriage equality commercial by the National Organization for Marriage.91 Like the red menace, the secularist danger is imminently looming. The metaphors are appropriately biblical: soon there will be a flood of litigation, a firestorm of controversy. Indeed, these apocalyptic pronouncements resonate closely with the millennialism that one finds in conservative evangelicalism generally and Christian Reconstructionism/pre-millennialism specifically. The “coming storm” and the End Times are not distant from one another.
The theme of the “war on religion” also intersects with the conservatives’ blend of fact and falsehood in their “religious liberty” arguments as discussed in the previous section. For instance, Roman Catholic legal theorist Thomas Berg writes that “if sexual-orientation discrimination should be treated in all respects like racial discrimination— as many gay-rights advocates argue—then the precedent of withdrawing federal tax-exempt status from all racially discriminatory charities, upheld in Bob Jones University v. United States, would call for withdrawal from all schools and social service organizations that disfavor same-sex relationships.”92 Note the elisions here: from “many gay-rights advocates argue” to a position that no court has ever taken, from withdrawing tax-exempt status to overall “withdrawal,” from a racist policy to “disfavor.” The “coming storm,” is highly unlikely to come in this way.
In describing the war on religion, conservative “religious liberty” discourse taps into the martyr narrative found in Christian history.
In more intellectual circles, the “war on religion” is attributed to a false distinction liberals supposedly make between freedom of conscience, worship, or belief on the one hand and the free exercise of religion on the other.93 According to this narrative, as described in such books as Stephen Carter’s The Culture of Disbelief, liberals misunderstand religion and are seeking to circumscribe how religion can be exercised. What Carter called the privatization of religion has now become a trope in conservative “religious liberty” discourse: that the “war on Christianity” in part results from an improper circumscription of religious liberty to simply what one believes in private, or within the church walls on Sunday, rather than what one practices in all aspects of life.94 It is this theory that allows conservative “religious liberty” advocates to insist that their employment decisions and commercial life are also the “free exercise of religion,” and to project a straw man secularist who believes that religion should only happen on Sundays. Of course, this “misconception” is not actually present in progressive thought on this subject; rather, the claim is that one’s free exercise of religion is one of many civil rights, and that it may not necessarily trample on the rights of another. read more at PRA:http://www.politicalresearch.org/category/blog/

What War on Christmas? | Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy

What War on Christmas? | Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy

**************************************************************************

"What War On Christmas? Rev. C. Welton Gaddy":
Gaddy Takes Wildmon To Task:

*I love Christmas. As a pastor, interacting with my congregation during the holiday season is inspiring as well as challenging. Tradition and innovation merge as different families find meaningful but different ways to celebrate commonly held truths. That is why I am troubled by a few individuals who inevitably insist that everyone understand and observe this season just as they do. These people attempt to universalize, commercialize, and impose on others their personal perspective on this deeply religious season of the heart."

*What did we think would happen? Across the years, many Christians urged governments to make Christmas a national holiday. (Note the language; a national holiday, not a spiritual holy day.) Similarly, churches welcomed partnerships with Madison Avenue marketers and Main Street merchants who then did what they do and made Christmas a season for buying, not a time for spiritual-based charity. Media grasped the potential of seasonal attention from a large audience attracted to Christmas festivities and with great success created programs on Charlie Brown, a reindeer named Rudolph, and spectaculars in music and dance."

[...]

*"Christians gave Christmas to the world and the world turned Christmas into a political football, a media event, and an unparalleled marketing enterprise. Did anyone really expect that a world of multiple religions and people with no religion would see a government holiday, a giant marketing initiative, and a media extravaganza as a holy time to be observed by all people in the same manner? Let's be reasonable."

*"I am weary of Christians who are constantly whining and writing fundraising letters of complaint because everyone is not celebrating the birth of Christ as they do. Look around. We are a multi-faith nation with the freedom to choose our own religious practices, or none at all.[...]"
*"My Jewish friends do not ask others to fast on Yom Kippur. Nor do my Muslim friends make such a request during Ramadan. I have learned to appreciate the Hindu festival of light called Diwali, even though no Hindu has asked this of me and the news media pays it no attention. I thank God that our government imposes no religious holiday on anybody, though recognizes the importance of such days for those who observe them."

[...]
Perhaps we Christians can profit from remembering that the world into which the child whose birth we celebrate was not born into a culture in which everyone stopped and celebrated his birth or mandated that all people kneel before the nativity."

*"As a Christian, it seems to me that, in the spirit of Christmas, we Christians should be happy that so many people are experiencing joy in this season even if their thoughts and actions involve paths different from ours [...]"

*"While we spread "good news," let's not be so arrogant as to pass judgment on practices different from our own. After all, we are not a nation with a state religion [...]"

[...]

*Surely, if we Christians are true to our principles throughout the seasons of Advent and Christmas and gain inspiration from the [values of hope, peace, joy, and love, that is enough.] What difference does it make whether someone greets us saying, "Happy holidays" or "Merry Christmas?"...
[...]

*Merry Christmas everybody! Or, Happy Holidays! Or, choose the greeting of your choice and have a great day. It's the thought that counts.--Rev. C. Welton Gaddy

I am just as happy when people make a kind gesture.
I regret that many devotees of the religion that gave us this season feel they must celebrate Christmas by attacking those who do not observe the season the same way we do. Think about it, even those who do not celebrate this season as a holy time support our right to honor the meaning it has for us. Surely, we can do as much for others.--Gaddy

When the news reminded us recently that singer Andy Williams had died a couple of years back, I got a lump in my throat. Not that I was a huge Andy Williams fan. It’s just that Andy Williams was one of the television stars that always had a Christmas special when I was a kid. Like most Americans, our family loved to watch all the Christmas specials (selecting them from our vast array of three channels), and Andy Williams was one of the best, year after year. His voice was amazing. He would always sing, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” What a great song.
Until recently, Christmas has always held a special place in the hearts of most Americans. Maybe it still does to some degree, but it’s hard to tell with all the political correctness sweeping our land. Many want to move us to a generic “holiday” celebration.
Many people have also succumbed to multiculturalism, which basically teaches that all cultures are morally equal, so to elevate Christmas above other religious holidays would offend other cultures. What a bunch of hogwash.
My growing up years were in the 1960s and ’70s. In addition to the Andy Williams special, our family also made it a point to enjoy “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which debuted in 1965 and continues on network television today.
Through the lovable cartoon characters from the Peanuts series, the real reason for Christmas is presented when, at the school play rehearsal, Linus tells Charlie Brown he knows the real reason for Christmas and goes on stage in front of the spotlight and quotes from the Scriptures:
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not: for, behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and goodwill towards men” (Luke 2: 8-14).
Then Linus looks at Charlie and says, “… and that’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
There’s no way a show that quoted that much Bible could ever make it on network television today if it were not already an established and much anticipated special each year like Charlie Brown. I guess they know viewers would revolt if Charlie and friends didn’t make their annual Christmas visit.
And make no mistake, it’s the Christmas gift-buying season that keeps many businesses alive. That’s why it’s refreshing when those same businesses recognize Christmas in their advertising.
Let’s keep Christmas in America and let’s keep Christ in Christmas. As Christians, we need to continue to use the Christmas season to share with the world around us the real reason for the celebration – Jesus Christ or Immanuel, which means, God with us.

11 Shocking Facts About the Anti-LGBT American Family Association | Human Rights Campaign

FACT ADDED: After the AFA Headquartered its operation in Tupelo, MS an All American City it was soon being called the "Dark Side" of Tupelo, MS in line with it's bigoted activities against the LGBT Community in America.

Earlier this week the Supreme Court declined to hear cases from five states challenging the constitutionality of state bans on marriage equality.  This paved the way for those states – and maybe more in the near future – to begin allowing same-sex couples to legally marry.  In response, Bryan Fischer, the Director of Issues Analysis at the American Family Association (AFA), compared the justices’ actions to those of a previous Supreme Court decision - Dred Scott v. Sandford.  This statement is on par with many other shocking and deplorable positions taken by the organization over the years.
AFA bills itself as being “on the front lines of America’s culture war” and “one of the largest and most effective pro-family organizations in the country.”  Take a look at 10 “pro-family” statements and stances out of AFA:
1.     AFA’s Bryan Fischer blames the Holocaust on LGBT people, stating, “Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.”
2.     AFA’s Fischer has called for an “Underground Railroad” to take children from gay and lesbian parents.
3.     Fischer has compared making criminalizing LGBT people with bans on murder, stealing, child molestation, delicious trans fats and prostitution.
4.     AFA says God is going to use ISIS to punish America for being tolerant of LGBT people.
5.     AFA supported the passage of Uganda’s deplorable anti-gay law, which calls for LGBT Ugandans or anyone “promoting” homosexuality to be jailed – potentially for life.
6.     AFA thinks the Boy Scouts of America would be better off drowning in the sea than allowing LGBT Scouts.
7.     AFA compares LGBT people to pedophiles and people who have sex with animals: "We should discriminate against unnatural and aberrant sexual behavior, whether pedophilia, bestiality, or homosexuality."
8.     AFA thinks fewer students will commit suicide if adults tell young people it is wrong to be LGBT and help them to “choose” to be straight – a practice that has been condemned by every major medical and mental health organization in the country.
9.     AFA thinks the NFL celebrating Michael Sam coming out as gay is the same as the NFL celebrating “a brain concussion.”
10.  AFA supports criminalizing LGBT people and, when talking about punishment, asks, "Do you put them to death, do you lock 'em up...what do you do?"

Letters to the Editor: Dec. 17, 2014 - Daily Journal

Apes, some thousands of years ago, evolved into modern Mankind, then modern Mankind created gods, oodles of them, all over the world.  Not just "One God!" There's the Christian God, Mormon God, Muslim God, Buddha, Pagan Gods ( was one of the choice gods incorporated into Christianity during its formative years long ago) and other gods from all across the world the number I don't claim to know, but many of these gods are claimed by their faithful to be the "One & Only True God!" So, now, we have the never-ending Disputes. Religious Wars, etc.,etc..

On this very day, Christians are screaming Persecution and End Times when the basics of Christian religion have never been heretofore proven, just passed on to the faithful as Superstition!  Is Superstition concrete, reliable, factual, scientific information? However, if it works for you, go for it.

Freedom of religion! And Freedom from religion! Some people call it Secularism! That's what it is! Stop trying to push your religion on others just because you think you can. Gay people were created in the Image of God according to Christians. Why do you think you have the right to call them inferior to you? Why do you have the right to harass them? They are all "Good As You." in the eyes of your own Christian God. ---Al Bratt 12-17-2014

Ohio Just Defeated an Extreme Abortion Ban, but Don't Get Too Comfortable | Jennifer Dalven

Ohio Just Defeated an Extreme Abortion Ban, but Don't Get Too Comfortable | Jennifer Dalven

Last week, the Ohio House voted on legislation that was breathtaking in its extremism: It would have banned all abortions after six weeks -- before many women even know they're pregnant.

First the good news: Legislators voted down the bill. That's a real and important victory for women in Ohio, and it does represent some progress. After all, the same legislation passed the House in 2011 before failing in the Senate.

But I'm just not able to get too excited about this. Yes, they defeated the ban, but celebrating the defeat of such an obviously terrible proposal is a hollow victory. While it's certainly good for the women of Ohio that the bill didn't advance, make no mistake about it: Extreme politicians remain fully committed to doing whatever they can to make sure that a woman can't get an abortion when she needs one.

After their failure in Ohio, and the crushing defeat of similar measures suffered on election night, they might change their approach.

But one thing you can be sure of: They haven't changed their goal.

Hearts & Minds In MS

http://djournal.com/lifestyle/human-rights-campaign-seeks-change-hearts-minds-mississippi/

“Good luck with that,” said Tim Wildmon, president of the Tupelo-based American Family Association. “If they’re here trying to change people’s fundamental religious views, views they judge as wrong, I know people aren’t apt to change their conventional beliefs based on TV ads. Why target the South? The problems they’re claiming aren’t any more real in Mississippi than anywhere else.”

**********************************************************************************
By Riley Manning
Daily Journal
There’s a new effort gaining momentum in Mississippi aimed at changing the conversation about homosexuality.
Earlier this year, the Human Rights Campaign, a nationwide advocacy group for LGBT rights, compiled a massive survey to assess the experiences and priorities of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Mississippi.
Among their findings, they determined 57 percent of respondents have called Mississippi home for over 20 years. Around 10 percent are serving or have served in the armed forces. More than half claim they volunteer in their communities.
Perhaps even more notably, half of those surveyed said they are people of faith.
In the most religious state in the country, the HRC’s newest initiative precisely aims to soften the conversation around homosexuality among Mississippi’s church-goers.
“You can’t really have a conversation about mostly anything without also talking about faith,” said Rob Hill, director of the HRC’s Mississippi efforts. “Especially here, you cannot divorce faith from this conversation.”
‘All God’s Children’
Earlier this month, the HRC rolled out the first in a series of television ads to promote education about the experiences of LGBT Mississippians. The first commercial in the “All God’s Children” series features Southern Baptist mother Mary Jane Kennedy, who speaks on her son coming out as gay.
HILL
HILL
“[Kennedy] is a person of deep faith,” Hill said. “Because of her religious beliefs, her journey to acceptance was difficult, and that’s what people should hear. We want to offer hope.”
The next commercial appeared this week, and features state Rep. Alyce Clark, D-Jackson, the first black woman to serve in the Mississippi Legislature. She speaks about her own gay son.
Born in Greenwood and raised in Jackson, Blossom Brown is a transexual woman living in Columbus. She will also be the subject of an ad by the HRC.
“I think what a lot of people don’t understand is that the LGBT community really wants to be a part of the church community,” she said. “As a transgender woman, it’s hard to find a place where I can get that peace time with the Lord without being criticized, often to my face.”
The HRC has booted up similar campaigns in Arkansas and Alabama, but some are skeptical about their efforts.
[...] Tim  Wildmon comment moved to top of page. --ABratt
Hill differed with Wildmon. He said one-third of people from the HRC’s survey said they had been personally harassed by a person of authority, say an employer, or a police officer. In addition, members of the LGBT community can be fired and evicted for their sexual orientation.
“Even Mississippi’s hate crime laws don’t cover LGBT people, but in a poll we conducted last month, we found the majority of mainstream citizens thought these protections were actually in place,” he said.
What’s a church to do?
Bishop Clarence Parks, pastor of the Temple of Compassion and Deliverance in Tupelo, admitted the church in general has been afraid to talk about homosexuality in the past, and often when it was, it was in a vicious way.
“Because we weren’t used to it, we felt the need to be really harsh on it and put it out of our sight,” he said. “But it wasn’t out of our mind. As we go forth, we’re learning how to deal with the issue better, but at the end of the day, a sin is a sin.”
Bishop Kelvin Ransey, who pastors Spirit of Excellence Church in Oxford, agreed.
“People think the church hates gays, but that’s far from the truth. We love them, but acting in that way is not compatible with what we believe,” Ransey said.
The Rev. Jeffery Daniel, pastor of White Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Tupelo, said the church itself is being pulled in two extreme directions.
“As a minister, you should be able to stand on your convictions without being accused of preaching hate,” Daniel said. “At the same time, you can’t beat people over the head with scripture. I preach against homosexuality just like I do against gambling and fornication, but I do so while still being aware of the person.”
In general, though, he sees a growing cultural acceptance of the LGBT community from the younger generation simply from being exposed to it from a young age. While many churches may have handled the issue poorly, many who have handled it responsibly have still been vilified one way or another.
“More people are coming out as gay who are connected to people against it. That forces these people to change their stance,” Daniel said. “It’s wrong to belittle a person either way, but from our perspective, we want to love you out of it.”
The Rev. Warren Black, a United Methodist minister who pastored Oxford University United Methodist Church for 18 years before retiring this year, says he hopes the church doesn’t land on the wrong side of history or the gospel. In his eyes, the more time the church wastes not accepting the LGBT community, the more young lives are at risk.
“The reality is people need help. Confusion over sexual orientation is one of the leading causes of teen suicide. These kids have nowhere to turn, and to me, that should be a ministry of the church,” Black said. “Meanwhile, more and more of the younger generation are leaving the church.”
Middle ground
Parks, Ransey, Black, and Hill did all agree that LGBT Mississippians should be protected under the law.
“Nobody should be fired for no reason, and I definitely don’t think it should be OK to go out and beat someone up or anything like that,” Parks said. “But there are civil rights and kingdom rights. I’m all for the LGBT community having civil rights. But marriage in the church is a kingdom right.”
Hill took heart in this attitude. The most he hopes for at this point, he said, is for the church community to hear the LGBT community out.
“We don’t want to fight. We want to be able to sit down and talk,” Hill said. “We hope that if we change people’s hearts and minds, that can lead to policy change.”
Black was optimistic, too.
“I greatly admire the HRC. I think things are really starting to move down here,” he said.
The HRC will make an appearance in Oxford at the Egg Bowl next weekend. Hill said they will have an information booth set up outside of Lamar Hall.

Republican [Joni Ernst] Admits Why Republicans Hate Obama Care

Republican Admits Why Republicans Hate Obamacare -- NYMag

Jonathan Chait:
"Conservatives have made a series of specific predictions about the effects of Obama Care — overall costs would rise, insurers would flee the exchanges, premiums would go up, the ranks of the uninsured would not even fall. All these predictions have failed. And yet conservative opposition to the law has not diminished. If you want to know why this is, listen to these secretly recorded comments from Iowa Republican Senate candidate Joni Ernst, via Radio Iowa and Greg Sargent. Here Ernst, speaking candidly to supporters, gets to the root of conservative opposition":
     http://abrattsliberaltupeloms.blogspot.com/2014/11/republican-joni-ernst-admits-why.html
Ernst:
We’re looking at Obama care right now. Once we start with those benefits in January, how are we going to get people off of those? It’s exponentially harder to remove people once they have already been on those programs…we rely on government for absolutely everything.  And in the years since I was a small girl up until now into my adulthood with children of my own, we have lost a reliance on not only our own families, but so much of what our churches and private organizations used to do. They used to have wonderful food pantries. They used to provide clothing for those that really needed it. But we have gotten away from that. Now we’re at a point where the government will just give away anything.”

That’s the fundamental belief that motivates most, if not all, the conservative opposition: Health care should be a privilege rather than a right. If you can’t afford health insurance on your own, that is not the government’s problem.
I happen to find this belief morally bizarre. People who cannot afford their own insurance either don’t earn much money, or have health risks, or family members with health risks, too expensive to bear.
All of us non-socialists would agree that there ought to be some things rich people get to enjoy that poor people are deprived of. Access to health care is a strange choice of things to deprive the losers of — not least because one of the things you do to “earn” the ability to afford it is not just the normal market value of earning or inheriting a good income, but the usually random value of avoiding serious illness or accident.
Indeed, very few Republicans have the confidence to make the case openly that the inability of some people to afford the cost of their own medical care is their own problem. But that is the belief that sets them apart from major conservative parties across the world, and it is the belief that explains why they have opposed national health insurance every time Democrats have held power, and why they have neglected to create national health insurance every time they have."

So This Is Christianity American Style? -AB

"Conservative religious leaders have a long track record of hyping supposed threats to religious liberty in America  specifically, to the religious liberty of conservative Christians. In fact, portraying Christians as a persecuted minority under siege by anti-freedom LGBT activists and secular humanists has become the right's primary strategy for reversing the advance of equality in America. But even in the long context of crying wolf over threats to religious freedom, Sen. Ted Cruz and his religious right allies have set new records for dishonest hype in their response to this week's controversy over subpoenas sent to a few religious leaders in Houston."

BarbWire: Miss America Winner Contributes To Violence, Destruction of The Country | Right Wing Watch

BarbWire columnist Luke Douglas is joining other conservatives who have expressed outrage that Kira Kazantsev, the recently-crowned Miss America, once worked as an education intern at a Long Island Planned Parenthood clinic.

So, now I invite you to take a first-hand look at what some in America's Christian-Right minority think is Christianity marching on to save the world!--ABratt

“The crusader of the largest abortion provider in the nation now the face of America? We shouldn’t be surprised,” Douglas said, before arguing that Planned Parenthood has contributed to the “pernicious deterioration” of America, with increased cases of rape and murder, as “a sexual revolution begun in the name of liberty has brought us to violence and confusion.”
This week’s newly crowned Miss America, 2015 is said to represent everything America believes in. Kira Kazantsev rose through the ranks of the competition: first as Miss New York, then singing “Happy” to win the national crown, then to represent our identity, our values, and our future as Miss America. As the crowds cheered with joy at her achievements, America took heart in knowing that our future is in the able hands of a new [...]

Spotlighting: Christian Right Homophobes Tim Wildmon, Bryan Fischer, Scott Lively...

AFA's Tim Wildmon, Scott Lively, Peter LA Barbera [...] Launch Global anti-Gay 'Coalition for Family Values.'  Yes, Friends, That's What They Named It!

'USA: Anti-Gay Religious Activists Hope to Boost Homophobia Exports'
"Anti-gay activists Scott Lively and Peter LaBarbera launched a new global anti-gay network they call the Coalition for Family Values.  At a Washington, D.C. press conference, Lively said governments have an affirmative duty to uphold a biblical view of sexuality, which he called the “one flesh paradigm.” That means discouraging and suppressing homosexuality.
Lively’s new effort has  drawn quick support from other religious right leaders like Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber and The American Family Association’s Tim Wildmon and Bryan Fischer.
Like the World Congress of Families at its recent press conference, Lively and his partners praised Russia’s anti-gay laws and encouraged the rest of the world to follow suit. From my report on the event at Right Wing Watch:"
Lively, who played an active role in fomenting homophobia in Uganda, now claims he thinks the new law there is too harsh. His goal is not to put people in jail, he says, as long as they keep their sex behind closed doors and don’t try to change society. He says government has “an affirmative duty” to discourage all sex outside marriage and to encourage the biblical “one flesh paradigm” regarind sexuality.
 The coalition’s statement says:
“…the vast majority of the people of the world do not accept the notion that sexual deviance should be normalized. It is time that these voices are heard on the world stage before the so-called elites of the Western powers impose their inverted morality on everyone through the manipulation of international law, which they clearly intend to do.”
Lively said his new group is needed because too many religious conservatives are afraid to really speak their minds on homosexuality.
“We believe that the pro-family movement is not being well represented at the moment. Because most of the people that are in the leadership positions are afraid to speak the plain truth because of the media….We’re not against gay marriage and gay adoption because they’re just bad public policy.

'We’re against them because homosexuality itself is harmful to the people who practice it and to society. ['same old song & dance from America's own Taliban Community'!]--ABratt
